PSA ON YOUR HSA AND MASSAGE THERAPY

In my practice, I am able to accept HSA cards and would love to be able to offer this to everyone! However, according to the IRS, massage therapy can only be paid for with an HSA card if the massage is specifically to "alleviate or prevent a physical or mental defect or illness." So, if you are seeing a massage therapist for a particular reason- I recommend asking your doctor to prescribe you some massage therapy. Just make sure that you have them save the information in case they need to prove what they are using their HSA for and make sure it says why you need it, how often do you need it, and for how long.
